Celebrating Canada’s Physical and Human Geography
Renovated a landmark, three-storey building nestled into a scenic high point along Sussex Drive’s ceremonial route—today celebrated as a stunning event venue with sweeping views of Rideau Falls, the Ottawa River and Gatineau Hills. Our designs included open and closed office spaces, a leather and wood furnished reading room used by the Prime Minister during visits, and the 280-seat, multi-screen Alex Trebek Theatre—where every flourish was inspired by Canada’s passion for exploration and learning, as well as the diverse landscape of our natural, cultural and social heritage.
Distinguishing Features: in the office space and common corridors—existing raw elements (granite stone walls, polished concrete floors and steal beams) were intentionally preserved, juxtaposed with modern architectural elements such as floor-to-ceiling glass, modern furnishings and green accents; in the reading room—traditional elements were incorporated, including copper coffered ceilings, crown mouldings, oak wood wall paneling, velvet drapes, and a fireplace crafted from local oak and granite; throughout the renovated space—original artifacts, artwork and furniture will continue to be rotated from the National Capital Commission’s Crown Collection
